1. Who We Are

Novae Caelum Studios, LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates the website Fiction.show and the Fiction.show Studio application (together, "the Service"). For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), we are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account information: email address, display name, and password (stored hashed). Author accounts also provide a website URL.

Profile information: optional bio, avatar, and social links.

Waitlist information: if you join a waitlist for the app or courses, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name and a short description of what you intend to make.

Content: series information, episode metadata, cover images, and video links uploaded by authors; bookmarks and watchlist entries created by readers.

Usage data: information about how you interact with the Service, such as pages viewed and features used, along with technical data like IP address and browser type.

App data: the Fiction.show Studio app runs on your own device using API keys you provide. We do not receive your source manuscripts, generated media, or third-party API keys unless you explicitly upload them to a Service feature.

3. How We Use Your Information & Legal Bases

Under the GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to create and manage your account, provide the Service, and process author applications.
  • Consent: to add you to a waitlist and send you launch and marketing updates. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests: to maintain security, prevent abuse and fraud, and improve the Service, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation: to comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.

4. Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use strictly necessary cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. Where we use any non-essential analytics or measurement technologies, we will request your consent first. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:

  • Public profiles: author display names, bios, avatars, and social links are publicly visible.
  • Service providers (processors): Supabase (authentication and database hosting), Vercel (web hosting), and Cloudflare (security and bot protection). Embedded video is served by YouTube and Vimeo. These providers process data on our behalf under data-processing agreements.
  • Legal requirements: where required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

6. International Data Transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. Data Retention

We keep account and profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain it to meet legal obligations. Waitlist entries are kept until the relevant product launches or you ask to be removed, whichever comes first.

8. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

9. Data Security

Data is stored using Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit. We apply row-level security so users can only access their own data, protect forms and authentication against automated abuse, and follow least-privilege practices. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Automated Decision-Making

We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated date and, where changes are significant, provide additional notice.
