Connect a desktop agent

Before you connect

Fiction.show is a hybrid filmmaking system: part visual app, part AI-agent workflow. Connecting an AI agent through MCP is strongly recommended. You can use the app on its own, but you’ll be using only part of the system.

Keep Studio open on the same computer as your agent. Agent subscriptions and generation-provider charges are separate; check each service’s privacy and data-use policies.

Connect your desktop agent

1. Open Agent Setup, the first tab in a Continuity or Realism project. The same connection card is also in Settings.
2. Choose your agent app and turn on the connection if needed.
3. Choose Copy Prompt for Your Agent. Paste and send that prompt in your chosen agent app, then follow its steps. If you’re not sure of a step, ask it to explain.
4. Use Copy Connection Settings only when directed. These settings contain a credential: put them directly in the client’s configuration or terminal, never in chat. Preserve other connections and update only fiction-show-studio.
5. Restart the agent client if directed, keep Studio open, and ask the agent to confirm that it can read the app over MCP.

You can choose Set up later and return to Agent Setup when ready.

Install the Studio skills

In Studio, use Settings → Account → Show skills in Downloads. Open Downloads → Fiction.show Studio Skills and follow its README to install all seven skills for your agent. Downloading does not install the skills; preserve any customized copies. Skills and app version numbers can differ.

If the connection is not ready

“Ready for your agent” means Studio’s server is available; confirm the connection by asking the agent to confirm that it can read the app over MCP. If you see “Available through your other open Fiction.show window,” use that window’s live connection settings without interrupting active work.

For “Not ready,” check the connection switch, then expand Agent Setup → Advanced connection settings (or Advanced connection settings on the Settings MCP card). Port, bearer-token controls, and technical details are there. Keep credentials out of chats, screenshots, and bug reports.

Agent Setup → Advanced connection settings → Set Up MCP Automatically is an alternative only if you have never configured MCP before. If you already have MCPs, use Copy Prompt for Your Agent and preserve your existing settings.

Give it a clear first task

Try: “Describe this project and suggest one small next step. Do not generate, delete, or spend anything yet.” Review the proposed work and costs before approving it. If the connection fails, use the checks above before asking the agent to generate anything.
